Getting started

Connecting a Proteus ATG

Enable the supported VPN connection on an OMNTEC Proteus, then register its 9-character serial number as a TankActive Location. Use the labels and controls described below to complete this workflow in the current TankActive web app.

What should I know before I start?

From Add New Location, choose Add by Serial Number (OMNTEC Proteus ONLY). This is the recommended method for most supported Proteus ATGs. Have access to the Proteus screen, the setup password, a descriptive Location Name, and permission to update the Location's network firewall.

The Proteus VPN requires outbound UDP port 1194 access to ovpn1.tankactive.com and ovpn2.tankactive.com. TankActive recommends allowlisting the hostnames. If your network team cannot use hostnames, the setup screen also displays the current IP addresses for legacy firewall configuration.

How do I enable VPN on the Proteus?

  1. 1On the Proteus System Status screen, select Utilities.
  2. 2On the Utilities Menu, select Setup Menu.
  3. 3Enter the setup password. The guided screen identifies 000000 as the default; use the current password if your organization has changed it.
  4. 4Select Network Properties, then select VPN Settings.
  5. 5Review the VPN Terms of Service and select Enable VPN.
  6. 6Confirm that the enable control remains selected and that the Proteus displays its VPN status. Do not continue solely because the button was pressed; use the status shown by the ATG as the connection confirmation.

How do I register the Location in TankActive?

  1. 1Continue through the TankActive guide to Complete Location Setup.
  2. 2Open the Proteus Help Menu and locate the device serial number highlighted by the guide.
  3. 3Enter a descriptive value in Location Name.
  4. 4Enter the serial number in Serial Number (Must be 9 Characters), then enter it again in Confirm Serial Number.
  5. 5Select Add Location and wait for TankActive to finish before leaving the page.

What subscription and completion states will I see?

An organization without an active subscription is sent to plan selection after TankActive saves the pending Location details. An organization with an active subscription may see a billing confirmation before the Location and its billing quantity are finalized.

A successful completion makes the Location available from the dashboard and Locations area. If the page says the Location was created but billing could not be synced, use Retry billing sync or View locations from the pending message; do not repeat the serial-number registration. If VPN status is not active, verify outbound UDP 1194 with the network administrator or contact TankActive support before relying on incoming readings or Alarm delivery.
