Getting started
Adding your first location
Choose the connection method that matches your equipment, complete the guided Location setup, and review any subscription effect before monitoring begins. Use the labels and controls described below to complete this workflow in the current TankActive web app.

How do I open Location setup?
Open Admin and select Add a location, or open Manage locations and select Add location. TankActive requires both Location management and subscription management access because creating an active Location can affect billing. If the button is disabled, ask an administrator with those permissions to complete the setup.
The Add New Location screen checks subscription and Location-limit information before it shows the connection choices. A new organization with no Locations can enter the setup flow, but it must select or activate a subscription before the Location is activated.
How do I choose a connection method?
- Add by Serial Number (OMNTEC Proteus ONLY) is the recommended route for most Proteus ATGs. It guides you through enabling the Proteus VPN and registering the 9-character device serial number.
- Mini-Me / TankActive Gateway connects through an external monitoring appliance. Use it only when that appliance is part of the confirmed setup.
- ATG Hostname & Port connects TankActive directly to an ATG over the network. It requires the ATG hostname or IP address, listening port, a Location Name, and a connection test.
How do I complete the selected flow?
Follow the screens for the method you selected. For a direct network connection, enter Hostname or IP Address, Port Number, and Location Name, then select Test Connection. TankActive enables Create Location after a successful test. If the test fails, the screen explains that monitoring may not work and requires an explicit acknowledgement before it permits you to continue.
For a Proteus serial-number connection, complete the on-device VPN steps, locate the serial number in the Help Menu, enter a descriptive Location Name, and enter the serial number twice before selecting Add Location.
How do I review subscription and billing?
If the organization does not yet have an active plan, TankActive saves the pending Location information and sends you to subscription selection. Existing subscribers see the current price and billing interval before confirming a billable Location change. Complete any Stripe step and return to TankActive without starting a second Location setup.
When setup succeeds, use View All Locations or return to the dashboard. If TankActive reports that the Location was created but billing still needs to be synced, use the retry action on that message. The application prevents another Location from being added until the pending billing sync is resolved.
